I just got a nice invitation from the new operator of the Downtown Los Altos Farmer's Market. The opening day if Thursday, May 5th from 4:30-8:00PM and is located on State Street and Second Street in downtown Los Altos. The new company hosting the farmer's market is bringing in local produce, just as before, but also adding new items from over 50 local certified growers and food producers. They will also be bringing in foods from local restaurants as well. I especially like that aspect is reinforces the downtown farmer's market as a destination activity that combines shopping with dining on Thursday nights. I've done this before where you go downtown to do a little produce shopping and then stop in a local restaurant for dinner afterward. There are several really close by including Maltby's and Pompeii but there are many others within easy walking distance.
As has always been traditional, there will be games and activities for the kids. In the past there has been balloon animals, face painting and other fun stuff to keep them engaged. There's plenty of places it sit down and enjoy the weather while listening to music and watching the people go by. The people watching at the farmer's market is great!
The new company coming in says in their invitation that they have cooking demontrations as well. I think that's brilliant since it allows people to see potentially new ways to use the various fruits and veggies they can actually buy at the market.
