Improvements coming to downtown Los Altos in 2013

The march toward improvements in downtown Los Altos continues with contruction now started on three major projects; 100 First Street, the new Safeway, and the San Antonio improvement project.  The two that most people are really excited about are the townhouse project at 100 First Street and the new Safeway.  Both projects are started.

 

100 First Street Townhouse / Condo Project

This is the biggest housing project in downtown Los Altos with 48 units being built where the old post office was located.  The site was excavated and the foundation has been poured.  The underground parking is in process with the first floor foundation soon to follow.  Once that's done, the street level construction will start and the building will quickly take shape.  The expected completion date is early 2014 so there is a long way to go. 

I've gotten several questions from buyers about this project.  Prices are not set and sales are not happening.  They are taking a list of names for possible buyers and when they start pre-sales in the fall, you'll have your chance.  Give me a call and I'll be happy to give you my perspective on buying new construction in downtown.

 

New Safeway in Downtown Los Altos

The old Safeway is closed and a new, 45,000 square foot building is set to replace it in about 10 months (assuming no delays).  Right now they're clearing out the old equipment and other materials.  Remediation of any hazardous materials will follow and then they'll begin demolition.  The new Safeway will be a huge improvement over the old one for many reasons including offering more services such as pharmacy, expanded deli, bakery, and others. 

 

San Antonio Improvement Project

Just drive down San Antonio Road and you'll see how much progress is being made.  There are new curbs, new irrigation, new plantings and more.  Having seen similar work done in Palo Alto, this will really brighten up the drive when it's all done and grown out.
